Alter Eco Grass-Fed Milk Bars
Packaging - While serving as a design intern at Modern Species
Problem
Originally, Alter Eco was in need a mock up of packaging for a new line of chocolate bars in order to show grocery stores what they would have available to stock in the upcoming year. Later, after the internship I learned that they decided to put it into production and the design ended up in stores and was expanded into a third flavor and a trade show exhibition booth.
Concept
Alter Eco wanted a design that highlighted the use of grass-fed milk, felt distinct, and maintained the existing branding of their chocolate bar line. We used the images wispy grass and a milk bottle to give the consumer a bit of nostalgia for the days when milk was delivered to the door from the farm. We also swapped out the use of the brand’s topography map pattern for cow spots, and switched from bright colors to a more neutral and natural palette.
Purpose
The purpose of this project was to give a memorable and well designed package to a brand that consistently serves the greater purpose. They were pioneers in compostable packaging, are certified B-Corp, center sustainability and activism in their mission, and as they state on their website “…every product we make is sourced from farmer-owned coops practicing sustainable agriculture.”
